Via the New York Times, a terrible, heartbreaking accident in the Bronx:
Seven people were killed on Sunday after a minivan that they were in lost control and fell several dozen feet from a Bronx River Parkway overpass, coming to rest in an area of the Bronx Zoo, law enforcement officials said.
Three of the dead in the one-vehicle accident were children, said a spokesman for the Fire Department, Jim Long. All of the dead were in the minivan; a city official said that the police believe the victims are from a single Bronx family.
The accident occurred around 12:30 p.m. on the southbound lanes of the parkway, just north of East 180th Street. A police spokesman said that the minivan was heading south in the passing lane when it lost control and struck the median; witnesses told the police that it appeared that a tire had blown.
The minivan then veered right, across the other two southbound traffic lanes, and fell over a guardrail into a wooded area, landing upside down.
“Sometimes you come upon events that are horrific and this is one of them,” Deputy Chief Ronald Werner, of Division 7, said at a brief news conference less than three hours after the accident.
Mr. Long said that the victims included three girls, ages 12, 10 and 7; three women, ages 80, 45 and 30; and an 84-year-old man.

A Final Flight for Enterprise
This morning, the space shuttle prototype Enterprise flew over NYC en route to her final resting place at the Intrepid Air & Space Museum on the Hudson River.
This wasn’t the first time Enterprise has flown over NYC. Up top, there she is in 1983 on the way back from the Paris Air Show. Below, today’s final flight over the Big Apple.

The Washington Capitals begin the 2012 Eastern Conference semifinals on the road against the New York Rangers tomorrow at 3 p.m. The Caps and the Rangers split the 2011-12 season series two games apiece, with each team winning once on the road and once at home. Washington earned two 4-1 victories over the blueshirts, including one on the last day of the regular season.
Rookie netminder Braden Holtby has a 2.00 goals-against average (GAA) and a .940 save percentage in seven playoff games thus far. He looks to be matched up with Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist who has a 1.70 GAA and a .945 save percentage in this year’s postseason run.
